Abstract

Though conspiracy theories have existed for centuries, they are currently conspicuous, a phenomenon brought about, or seemingly amplified by, new digital and communication, heightened levels of misinformation, distrust in authority, and widespread social and cultural conflict underpinned by climates of fear, paranoia, and crises. This entry explores the importance of conspiracy, conspiracy theories and conspiracism, discussing how CMS and related organizational research can meaningfully interact with these complex, increasingly prominent, and very troubling social trends.
