Abstract
This paper examines the performance of the construction sector in Turkey and selected EU countries and the interaction between the construction sector and other sectors of the national economy, especially manufacturing and services, using input-output tables for the years 1998 and 2002. The indicators obtained from input-output (IO) data are used in the analysis. The construction sector’s shares in Gross National Product (GNP) and National Income (NI) are first examined in the thirteen countries. Then, GNP shares of construction, manufacturing and services are compared. Finally, the technological change in construction is analysed by direct and total construction inputs from manufacturing and services. The key findings are pointed out in conclusion.
