Abstract

This essay is an introduction to a journal Special Issue on Gender and Tourism. It examines the state of gender research in tourism and presents the five papers which comprise the Special Issue arguing that they have contributed to the critical conversations that are urgently needed to understand the nature of gender relationships in tourism.
