N2 - Artificial intelligence (AI) is fast-tracking transformations across diverse design disciplines. The responsible and ethical integration of AI into architectural pedagogy is no longer optional; it is essential for shaping future-ready professionals. This chapter examines how global architecture schools are responding to the potential of AI. It draws on data from the UIA (International Union of Architects) Global Survey, which included 345 institutions across 159 countries. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the inquiry is predicated on integrating content and keyword analysis of curricular offerings with cross-regional comparisons to assess AI adoption patterns, pedagogical frameworks, and emerging practices. Findings reveal that while 44% of schools report some AI integration, primarily in computational design and simulation, its implementation is inconsistent and often lacks an ethical foundation, regional inclusivity, and pedagogical depth. Access to infrastructure, faculty and teaching staff readiness, and curricular coherence remain key challenges.
The originality of this chapter lies in its proposition of a values-led and systems-oriented pathway for embedding AI into architectural pedagogy while balancing technical fluency with critical thinking and social responsibility. Pedagogically, it calls for transdisciplinary and research-informed learning that demystifies AI and empowers students as co-creators. Professionally, it accentuates the need for architects to evolve as ethical digital stewards, ensuring AI supports efficiency, equity, culture, and climate resilience. Conclusions are drawn to emphasise that by embracing AI through a critical lens, architectural pedagogy can reclaim its civic mission, where the future of the profession depends on how rapidly we adopt AI and on how wisely we do so.
