Abstract

In a five-axis flank milling process, the tool rotation profile error caused by tool runout has a great influence on the machining accuracy of workpiece. A new comprehensive error prediction model was presented based on the pre-existing tool path error prediction model. The distribution of tool contact points on the machined surface was calculated to reconstruct the machined surface, thereby predicting the machining accuracy. To deal with the difficulty of measuring the tool runout error, a test method was designed for accurately obtaining the tool error parameters, which could support the model calculation. The validity of the prediction model was verified by the comparison experiments.
