Abstract
In Summer 2003 the Speleoklub Arabika from Irkutsk took part in an expedition called "Polytecha 2003", which aimed to map and investigate the Polytechnika Cave near Lake Baikal. Samples were collected for paleoclimatic research and an automatic climate data logger was installed in the cave. The cave is situated approximately 70 km southeast of Irktusk, 5 km from Lake Baikal in the Pribaikalsky National Park. A map of the cave was developed. It is 527 m long and has a maximum depth of 49 m. The galleries of the upper part of the cave are oriented by tectonic faults, and the draperies and speleothems are disrupted by tectonic events. Fossil sea levels and fluvial sediments were found.
