Abstract

In this study, a discrete-time sensor fault estimator is addressed to estimate sensor faults for pointabsorber wave energy converters, which enables to get a full picture of the health status of the sensors. The proposed estimator can successfully estimate both low-frequency and high-frequency fault signals to sensors, which has a wide applicability in practical scenarios. The estimates of the system states are also provided as a by-product, which provides additional information for monitoring and control. By using sensor signal compensation with estimated fault signals, a faulttolerant control scheme is established which can achieve a resilience of the outputs such as position, velocity, absorbed power and energy in wave energy converters. The effectiveness of the proposed design is well demonstrated by simulation studies.
