Abstract

The effectiveness of any Design for Lean Six Sigma (DFLSS) initiative fundamentally hinges upon the quality of training provided and, importantly, on selecting the right people to drive these initiatives. Effective training equips teams with the knowledge, tools, and mindset required to execute DFLSS methodologies successfully and sustainably.

Training in DFLSS is not merely a procedural formality but a strategic investment in organisational capability and continuous innovation. Robust training ensures that employees deeply understand and can practically apply advanced tools such as quality function deployment (QFD), voice of the customer (VOC) analyses, design of experiments (DOE), and statistical modelling. It also prepares individuals to navigate complex project landscapes confidently and manage cross-functional collaboration efficiently. Consequently, organisations that neglect training or approach it superficially often encounter sub-optimal project outcomes characterised by increased project failures, misaligned solutions, higher rework rates, and diminished customer satisfaction.
