Abstract

This paper proposes a design of a USB-based PC-to-PC link over an indoor visible light channel in which USB - a commonly used interface is applied for connecting personal computers (PC) to a visible light communication (VLC) system. By doing so, this proposed design is able to apply for a wider range of devices including PCs and other mobile devices than existing designs using Ethernet RJ-45 interface.Though the bandwidth of the LED is experimentally recorded as 3~4 MHz, it can be improved up to 6.0 MHz by applying a simple R-C compensation circuit with low bit error rate (10e-5) over the distance of 2.0m. The data rate between two PCs, therefore, achieves up to 6 Mbps in the ON-OFF keying non-return zero (OOK-NRZ) format, which is sufficient for transferring a high-definition (HD) video stream over the designed model.
