Abstract
This chapter examines the coverage of family business history from a UK perspective by developing a novel case study of Rushworth Music House in Liverpool, during the period 1900–1944. The case illustrates the important interconnections between a family business and its immediate socioeconomic and cultural context. The chapter draws out novel examples of place-based family capitalism and the importance of local embeddedness in connecting the family firm with the condition and development of its regional economy.
