Abstract

At the beginning of this collection, we wrote about the power and the pain of stigma when it gets ‘under the skin’ (Hatzenbuehler, American Journal of Public Health 14:1–9, 2013; Finch, L. 2001. The classing gaze: Sexuality, class and surveillance, Crows Nest: st. Leonards, Australia: Allen and Unwin Ltd.; Kuhn, 1995; Devine, 2005). By bringing these chapters together here we wanted to provide an evidence base from which to draw attention to the (in)visible harm enacted on a person who uses drugs via mechanisms of stigma
