    Abstract

This paper sets out to examine how a co-housing model might provide a positive choice for housing an aging population, enhancing quality of life for older people whilst freeing up a scarce resource for families in need of housing. In rural areas in particular, the availability of houses of the right type and in the right place, and at prices that local people can afford, are important factors together with issues around homes that are fit for aging in place.
