Abstract

Food insecurity affects millions of people across Africa and many child deaths are linked to poor nutrition. In the UK, despite being one of the richest economies in the world, 11% of people experienced food insecurity in 2022/2023 including 17% of children. This chapter focuses on the role of transnational social work skills and knowledge in relation to current challenges of food insecurity and alleviating hunger in Uganda and the UK. It also includes voices and perspectives of practitioners from Uganda and the UK. Therefore, presenting learning from different geographies and how these “glocal” issues of food insecurity and alleviating hunger manifest on local levels in Uganda and the UK, and are related to political, economic and cultural forces.
