Future directions in clinical application of gait, balance and mobility analysis

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the future directions for clinical applications of gait, balance and mobility analysis, along with recommendations and potential challenges that may occur along the way. Digital health technology is exponentially growing and changing the way that healthcare and clinical trials are delivered, with more reliance on objective data for clinical assessment. While there has been a lot of promise from digital health technologies for the measurement of gait, balance or mobility in clinical and healthy populations, their added value in clinical application within healthcare or trials is yet to be fulfilled. Here, we provide an overview of the technologies that are currently available to be deployed for clinical application, as well as directions for future technology and measurement development for clinical populations.
