title = "Fuzzy Inference System for Mobility Prediction to Control HELLO Broadcasting in MANET",
abstract = "HELLO messages are used in many routing protocols in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) for updating the neighbour information as well as the changes of network topology. However, periodically broadcasting HELLO messages in a fixed interval wastes of a lot of energy and generates the huge amount of redundant control packets across MANET if network mobility is low. In contrast, the frequency of sending HELLO messages will not quickly enough keep track the change of neighbours if network mobility is high. To solve that problem, this paper introduces a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) for controlling HELLO frequency based on the prediction of nodes{\textquoteright} mobility. The model helps to reduce the redundant HELLO messages while still ensuring to properly check neighbours and network topology. It is observed that energy consumption of the network saves 5 mW over 100 s (18 mW over 1 h) compared to that of the conventional HELLO broadcasting scheme.",
