Abstract
This chapter reflects on an ethnographic exploration of male ‘lifestyle gamblers’ among whom gambling represented a facet of everyday life, an integral element of the masculine weekend leisure experience, and a tool through which identity and desire could be sought. In particular, it focuses on two key participants in this research, Christian and John, and the highs and lows they experienced, the latter of which exposes the scope of gambling-related harms and ultimately how loss interlinks with a seeming drive towards death.
