Abstract
ThisarticlediscussesNancyBryssonMorrison’snovelTheGowkStormin relationtogriefandtheenvironment.Itexaminesthestrategiesthrough which the novel captures and reimagines grief through the merging of human history with the nonhuman temporalities of the environment of the Scottish Highlands. A postcritical reading of Morrison’s novel TheGowkStormrevealsthatherenvironmentaluseoftheelegiacform producesnon-lineartemporalitiesthatcontributetoapoliticsofresistant mourningthatmaystillspeaktotoday’sreadersandhelpthemnavigate the crises and tragedies of the twenty-first century.
