    Abstract

My name is Jenny and I want to be a ‘domestic goddess’. I have borrowed a little bit of Nigella’s charm, Delia’s determination and Fanny’s eccentricity. I am going to bake my autobiography. I have designed a gateau that will incorporate the many different cakes of my life. This recipe will be followed carefully and one large, multi layered cake will be baked and assembled. Using baking tips sourced from well known female food personalities my cake will be made out of a forgotten christening, several birthdays, a failed Mothers day, a trip to America, homesickness and the best Christmas surprise. Viewers can experience the making, displaying and eating of a ‘life in cake’. This work celebrates a bodily and personal engagement in cakes and baking and investigates what it takes to become a ‘domestic goddess’ who can create a cake that is beautiful, outrageous, gorgeous and bittersweet.
