Abstract

The text presents an exemplary teaching and research project, which has few equals in Italy in the field of university orientation for secondary school students. This is a path built together by the Institute of Higher Education of Primiero (TN), the IUAV University of Venice and the then Faculty of Engineering of the University of Trento. For five years, from 2008 to 2014, students from various high schools in Trentino were able to experience how the initial training of architects and engineers takes place. Every year, architectural research themes with a significant profile have been developed, such as the bridge, the urban loggia, the ideal room, the space for knowledge. Theoretical insights, seminars, workshops, debates and reviews were regularly held at the offices of the institutes and the two universities involved, working in teams and on projects. Through study sketches, models, drawings and technical reports, the students were finally evaluated by mixed commissions of secondary and university teachers. The original name of the project, NAUTA (Networking Accessible University Through Acknowledgment), indicates the network of close-knit collaborations that brought the idea to success, supported by a working group of high-level experts and professionals, and co-financed by the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto.
