Kinetic simulations of electron response to shear Alfvén waves in magnetospheric plasmas

Abstract

The contribution to electron acceleration and parallel electric field formation was analyzed by shear Alfvén waves on auroral field lines in the Earth's magnetosphere. The one-dimensional solution was determined by self-consistent coupled Vlasov-Maxwell system for shear Alfvén waves. The Vlasov equation was gyro-averaged to minimize number of dimensions and electron distribution function was also described in terms of spatial coordinate along field line. The shear Alfvén wave pulses propagating in magnetic field on model auroral filed lines were described in terms of kinetic electron response and parallel electric field.
