Abstract
International Competition Library Illustrazioni
‘All architecture functions as a potential stimulus for movement, real or imagined. A building is an incitement to action, a stage for movement and interaction.’
The power in this ‘Trace’ lies in making sense of human experience and entelechy within buildings. Generated by a woman who is registered blind and her guide dog, the graphic is motivated by an attempt to both understand and visualise building use.
The Trace is an (otherwise in)visible representation of tensions (movement, time, intent, cognition) and ephemeral moments experienced by the building-user. Flow, speed, and direction of travel are established. Elements of architecture, such as a threshold, are defined. Ephemeral moments become ‘architectural facts’ captured in the Trace.
