Abstract
McDonaldization is a concept extending Max Weber's work on rationality, coined by the sociologist George Ritzer. The significant contribution of McDonaldization is to extend the analysis of rationality from production to include consumption, focuses as it does on a critical analysis of the organizational and cultural principles of the fast-food restaurant. This entry describes the popularity and influence of the concept, while noting the limitations that critics have identified.
