Abstract

In recent years, Building information model (BIM) has been adopted by the construction industry as a new way to design a project through the digital model. BIM helps to simplify the communication and the cooperation between different actors during the project life-cycle, especially for big projects with complex geometry. Based on the concept of co-design, our aim is to better structure the 3D BIM multi-scale model for a tunnel construction project by defining their basic components with their levels of detail. The multi-scale modeling allows the integration of GIS during the design phase. To simplify the modeling and make it faster, we propose a decomposition method to split up the entire project into several sub-models, and a consistent merging method of digital sub-models made by different actors, in order to build the overall model.
