Abstract

This paper presents a novel blur restoration technique specialized for smartphone-to-camera based communication (screen to camera, S2C) system. The key technique is to avoid the repeated scanning of the transmitted data and to lower the amount of data discarded at the receiver end of the S2C system. This image processing method will improve the system recognition efficiency and data rate. The proposed method incorporates a non-blind restoration technique for the S2C system utilizing Wiener filtering. The experiment includes practical data acquisition with further estimation and processing in Matlab. The experiment is carried out to restore the blur levels in the S2C system with a varying link span of up to 50 cm. In this experimental investigation, a quick response (QR) code is used for data transmission in the S2C, and the obtained results indicate that, the proposed technique is proven to have an improved restoration accuracy of up to 96% in the receiver end.
