Abstract
A novel Mg46Li19Cu25Y10 nanostructure-bcc ductile phase composite containing a Mg2Cu phase and amorphous zones has been obtained. The large plasticity (25%) under compression is due to the soft bcc Mg–Li solid solution phase and the large Mg2Cu phase particles. A three stage serrated flow pattern is observed in the compressive stress–strain curve which is associated to the microcrack development.
