Abstract
Optical-fibre technology is the key to the introduction of video and other related broadband services into any subcarrier network. This paper reports the design, construction and performance of a twin-channel multiplexed video transmission system using pulse width modulation (PWM) operating over 1 km of fibre suitable for use in such a network. The results indicate that overall the performance meets, and in many cases exceed, the spcifications laid down for transmission of broadast-quality TY signals. PWM is shown to be a vaiable low-cost alternative to the predominantly more complex and expensive digital systems requiring far greater bandwidth.
