Abstract
This text briefly summarizes the current debate on intervention models aimed at old age. These models include the traditional social security approach, typified by the International Labor Office, and the new neoliberal model, championed by the World Bank. The text assesses the importance of this debate and the extent to which different perspectives have been developed. Finally, it evaluates the effectiveness of regional generalizations about the roles of the public and private sectors.
