This chapter introduces a Linear Matrix Inequality formulation of H∞ output feedback controller synthesis. Within this framework, the design procedure of McFarlane and Glover is detailed. Existence conditions for full-order and static output loop-shaping controllers are given in terms of matrix inequalities. The approach is extended to the class of polytopic systems. The effectiveness of the various controller synthesis algorithms is demonstrated on two aerospace control design examples.
