Abstract

This full length briefing explains what Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD) is, why and how it happens, where it happens, who is most affected, and importantly how it can be addressed.

Featuring case studies from both the Global North and South, the brief captures the latest thinking on NELD all in one place whilst acting as an accessible introduction for those new to the topic.

Key features include: an introduction NELD and its types; an exploration of why its happening and how; recent NELD cases studies; a map showing that NELD is happening across the world; a chapter exploring who is most affected by NELD and in what way; and a chapter explaining how we can respond to NELD by documenting, measuring, addressing, taking action under the UNFCCC and by considering action on NELD a moral obligation.
