Abstract

This study addresses the issues of analysis of only the father and the child in paternity investigations, considering the increase of this type of cases that are solicited in laboratories in Brazil. Two hundred and fifty-nine paternity investigations composed of mother, child and the alleged father were analyzed, as well as the same 259 cases, in which the results of the mother were removed, and only the results of the alleged father and child were analyzed, using the AmpFlSTR Cofiler™/Profiler plus™ Kit and Identifiler™Kit. Paternity index (PI) was calculated using population data on STR allele frequencies for the Brazilian population. Considering the mixed condition of our population, the different geographical region of our sample, the number of sample analyzed, the Brazilian paternity investigation in the absence of mother, using the STR loci analyses, were presented and discussed.
