Abstract

The Brushless Doubly Fed Reluctance Machine (BDFRM) has been receiving increasing attention due to its advantages concerning wind generation. This paper presents the basic principles of steady state operation of the machine, as well as a dynamic model for variable speed operation of large-scale BDFRM implemented in simulation with closed loop scalar control. This control method is a convenient solution for applications where high dynamic performance is not required and speed variations required are relatively limited. The aim of this paper is to provide a platform for further development of viable optimal control strategies for BDFRM high power applications.
