Abstract

‘Plastique Fantastique Welcome BI-SON-OIL-MAN’, a performance involving the playing of an electronic drone folk song, the imbibing of green chroma-key milk, the mixing of oil and milk, a sigil made of golf-clubs and a projection of a silent film/communiqué detailing the mating of Bison with Golfing Oil Men to produce a brand new life form. The performance ends with the manifestation of a BI-SON-Oil-MAN, combining two (ancient and modern) forms of commodity - cattle and oil. The performance addresses the golf & gulf rituals of Oil-Men facing die-back and extinction everywhere, and proposes a new economic & multi-species creature. The performance is a new iteration from a previous work commissioned by Lucy A. Sames and Dane Sutherland for CHEMHEX EXTRACT exhibition at Aberdeen’s PVA Gallery and subsequently presented at IMT gallery.
