Abstract

This paper presents a new technique of estimating both rotor position and speed of an ideal synchronous reluctance machine using only the measurements of current and voltage available at the stator terminals. Due to the variation in inductance with position this technique is applicable even at standstill and no special startup procedure is required. The simulation results have shown the viability of the proposed technique.
