Abstract

This article presents a case example of personal health budgets as an innovative intervention to support young people on their transition out of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). The implementation of this innovation followed a service improvement event and close collaboration between multiple key stakeholders. The underpinning philosophy stems from the NHS Long Term Plan, and its focus on encouraging the increased use of personalised care. The feedback from clinical staff, families and young people involved illustrates that the use of personal health budgets had multiple perceived benefits, and it has been continued as a new way of working. By sharing the case study, we aim to foster interest in, encourage further use of, and highlight the need for further research and development about personalised health budgets.
