Abstract
Our Contribution:
'Proofs & Prints' - a display of 3 x double page editorial spreads revealing the professional, iterative 'marking up' of editorial changes/corrections, indicating instructions on technical, graphic, aesthetic and written aspects. The original artwork belonged to a student at Northumbria University and the two authors overlaid their professional corrections, from their expert discipline perspectives, showing the care and 'passing on' of discipline (formal/tacit) knowledge from experienced design educator to student.
The narrative accompanying text to the display is attached.
Exhibition call:
"key themes: Mark making, exploration, navigation, communication,
dialogue, reflection.
Context
We propose that everyday, Designers, Design Educators, Design Students, all ‘pick up’ a pen, pencil or some other form of mark making instrument, which they then apply to various surfaces. Subsequently, these Drawing actions generate Dialogues that are then captured by Documents i.e. memorialised representations of thought, which encourage discourse and in turn, prompt future action"
