Abstract
Critically Appraised Papers (CAPs) is a unique feature of the Australian Occupational Therapy Journal, and commenced in 2003, shortly after the launch of the OTseeker database. Dr Clare Taylor from Bournemouth University (UK) was the inaugural Departmental Editor of the CAPs Department. The main aim of the CAPs Department is to keep occupational therapists up‐to‐date with recent advances relevant to their profession. CAPs are produced by summarising and appraising original research studies or reviews of research, which are of sound methodological quality. The format for AOTJ CAPs was modelled on those published in Evidence‐Based Medicine, Evidence‐Based Nursing, Evidence‐Based Mental Health, and the Australian Journal of Physiotherapy. Currently, no other occupational therapy journal publishes CAPs.
