Abstract
to the editor: The point of our recent Editorial was to emphasize the importance of publishing “negative data.” Although Nuzzo and Barry acknowledge this in their letter (3), they reacted strongly to the following statements in our editorial (1).
“For example, lifting heavy weights can be dangerous, especially in older people who may have connective tissue pathology or a lack of coordination. In addition, resistance exercise training is widely believed to be an important component of overall physical fitness, but lifting heavy weights can be intimidating if not painful, preventing many people from initiating this type of exercise.”
