Resistance

The ability for individuals or collectives to challenge, reject, re‐imagine, and reshape conditions has become crucial within geographers' efforts to capture societal relations. How best to characterize these oppositional acts, though, has prompted much reflection and critical thought within the discipline. The language of resistance is where this reflection is often centered upon. What counts as resistance, who is able to resist, where might we find resistance, and to what extent might resistance influence change remain key questions for the discipline. Geography is particularly well placed to respond to such openings, through an attentiveness to the situated nature of resistance, an engagement with the spatiality of resistant acts, and a commitment to social justice that is central to much of the work within the discipline
