Rural Entrepreneurship and International Development

Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to explore international rural entrepreneurship through the lens of a development typology. Arguing that rural entrepreneurship is an inclusive phenomenon that should encompass international contexts, it has previously been highlighted that most papers are located in the Global North (Newbery et al., 2017). Context is important, and in the Global South, there is an increasing likelihood of low income/poverty, inequality, precarious livelihoods and informality alongside very different institutional networks (Igwe et al., 2018; Kimmitt et al., 2020). Within this context, the expectation is that certain themes in rural entrepreneurship increase or decrease in significance.
