Abstract
This chapter explores the prevalence of sexual violence and abuse (SVA) in more depth. It focuses on the context of the UK; however, statistics regarding the prevalence of SVA are similar worldwide. We explore the terms used to describe those who have experienced sexual violence and briefly touch on the history of this topic. SVA is entrenched in gender-based violence and the prevalence and impact throughout society and with regard to conviction is touched upon.
