Abstract

This output explores potential futures of design education. The 9th International Conference on Engineering and Product Design Education conference brought together representatives from education and industry who have an interest in shaping the future of design education. The conference provided a forum for educators and researchers from product development, engineering and industrial design, together with industry representatives, to discuss current educational issues and the nature of design education in the future. As a design researcher and educator, Bohemia is interested in the skills and competencies of designers and the match between these and industry requirements. Bohemia’s current research focus is on global product design processes, interdisciplinary working and their impact on the design profession. This thinking is central to the development of the Northumbria University Design Innovation Lab (nuDIL). Northumbria provided funding to establish a dedicated Global Design Lab to support Bohemia’s ongoing research.
