Abstract
A digitised Super 8 film commissioned by Tyneside Cinema in 2021 in response to their archive. Sinkhole uses text on screen to process sampled writing from 1980s cinema director Sheila Whitaker with part factual, part fictional plans to build at cinema in a South Tyneside cliff wall, at a site at which there is now a large sinkhole. The film meditates on the social function of cinema and what it means to be on the brink of collapse.
