    Abstract

Stakeholder engagement has become a strategic tool for the development of sustainability-oriented business models. This chapter provides the background of how companies involve and engage their stakeholders, internal or external, and then manage relationships with them in order to adopt management strategies that respond to the needs of the company itself and society in general, as well as to the expectations of all stakeholders who are directly or indirectly interested in the sustainable performance of the company. This chapter also reveals the main gaps in the managerial literature in this research field, emphasizing how the book contributes to filling some of these gaps and justifying the need for further research works.
