Abstract
This chapter explores the support healthcare providers can give survivors of sexual violence and abuse in order to ensure that their experience is as supportive as possible. It touches on the meaning of trauma, the embodied response to trauma and how practitioners can use a trauma-informed approach to ensure the safety of disclosure. Practical aspects of disclosure are also considered, such as sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy, and forensic care.
