Abstract

Sweatshop, collaborated with Lisa Cheung, is a process project which addresses issues surrounding consumerism and cheap labour. Work arising from it includes a mobile workstation and numerous flags created by local communities protesting the idea of sweatshop. All flags were hung in the museum gallery, foyer and on the outside of the museum building on the closing day of the exhibition. The production of the flags took place throughout the exhibition and the mobile workstation also travelled out of the museum for workshops elsewhere in Plymouth. Each participant was invited to interpret the theme of the exhibition through the creation of their flag.
