Abstract

An improvised movement-based performance utilising chairs and other sitting affordances in use at Northumbria University. Chairs are an significant feature of our somatic experience of the modern world shaping our physicality, our embodied memories, and our interactions with others. Using simple everyday actions of sitting, shifting within chairs, and arriving into and leaving chairs, the performance explores the body's relationship to seating, inviting the audience to reconsider the everyday. Created by Liz Pavey in partnership with Paula Turner and Grand Gestures Dance Collective (GGDC), and in collaboration with cellist Caroline Hoile. Featuring GGDC performers Lilian Read, Cynthia Richardson and Claudine Zardi.
