Teacher educators in primary physical education

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the role of the teacher educator within the context of primary physical education. It focuses on how as a teacher educator can support beginner teachers and other colleagues through their early professional development. The chapter also focuses on how teacher itself can develop as a teacher educator through personal reflection and professional development to ensure that their remain up to date with changes in educational practice. It describes how teacher role as a teacher educator may development over time. E. White and S. Jarvis suggest that the key roles undertaken by teacher educators consist of "the preparation, leading, facilitation and evaluation of a multiplicity of activities". The British Council identify within their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework for teacher educators a need for those engaged in these activities to develop knowledge skills and understanding across three key areas.
