Abstract

This chapter explores ways in which the sustainable development goals can and do extend across subject area and activities in the built environment. Whilst it might well be the case that some disciplines arguably have a narrow and limited connection with the goals, concerns of the built environment disciplines extend across consideration of social, economic and technical issues to the point that all of the goals can be located within core subject areas. Therefore, it is argued that the challenge becomes not whether or how the SDGs can be somehow integrated within built environment academia, but instead how to do so in relation to the context, expertise and wider societal concerns of any given academic group.
