Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of camera parameters on the performance of camera-based vehicle-to-vehicle optical communications system. Here, we consider the light source radiation pattern, atmospheric attenuation and camera noise sources and investigate the impact of the camera's exposure time, lens f-number, image sensor size and its resolution on the signal to noise ratio of the system. Results show that, for communications on shorter distances (less than 200 m), lower image sensor resolution exhibits improved performance.
