Abstract
Café conversation with conference co-convenor, Dr Elizabeth Kramer, regarding my role for seven years as a 'madoguchi', i.e. cultural 'gatekeeper' and journalist, reporting on avant garde British fashion, design and architecture for the high end, experimental, Japanese magazine, Hanatsubaki, owned by Shiseido. The conversation included showing a range of editorial magazines, and discussing the features that I had written and had been published, to unravel the process of investigating, sourcing, reporting and translation of British cultural acuity and taste, to a transnational audience. I had written 300+ features for this magazine over 7 years.
